The Wellington Phoenix and Capital Football are jointly getting in behind local football to help raise funds for the forthcoming season. Following Richard Martin’s retirement, we are pleased to announce that MARTY ROMIJN is taking over as 1st team Head Coach. Marty has many years playing experience and has an in-depth knowledge of many of the players having coached the Tawa College1st eleven for a number of years.
DANIEL WOOD takes over as coach of the 2nd team following Bill Bradley’s retirement. Dan played over 100 games for the Tawa first team and ranks as the team’s 4th highest goal scorer before injuries brought an early end to his playing days.

Come and support the Tawa AFC Teams, Hilton Petone Tournament 2012 will start on Sunday 19th February.
Click here for the Preliminary Draw
Division 2 will consist of 18 teams. In the two groups with 4 teams (Groups 1 and 3) the top two teams will proceed to quarter finals. The two groups of 5 teams (Groups 2 and 4) will have an extra game plus a bye, so only the two winners of these groups will qualify and they will go directly into the semi-finals (refer KO draw tab). The 3rd and 4th placed teams in Groups 1 and 3 will play a friendly the following week so all teams will get a minimum of 4 games.
Time between games will be very tight, so halftime will be restricted to 10 minutes.
Sunday 4 March – The Phoenix are at home to Gold Coast so only games to be played are Division 2, Groups 2 and 4, with early kick offs.
Sunday 25 March – The Phoenix are at home to Central Coast and Wakefield Park is unavailable, so all games will be played at Memorial Park with early kick offs.
Unfortunately we cannot avoid the time clash with Team Wellington home game on Sunday 18 March.
Venues and times are all subject to change.
More details, rules etc., will be circulated closer to the tournament. Please check on the Petone Football website.
Football in 2012
Tawa AFC football has had an excellent 2011. We had an additional 4 teams and have grown 60% over the last two years. Our performances on the field have been good with our flag ship Central League team again performing well, our second team wining its league gaining promotion to Capital 1 and our Dvision 8 Saintz and Masters 2 Grizzlies teams both gaining promotion.
We continue to welcome new players of both sexes and if you are leaving college this year please contact us.
