Mini Football 10th Grade Skills Challenge

Introduction

Skills challenges are being introduced to Mini Football during the 2012 season.  They are a tool to measure the progression of a player, whilst providing motivation and focus for the junior player.

Although the skill challengers are used as a way of recognising, monitoring and rewarding the junior player, they can also serve as a supporting identification tool around how technical proficiency is measured, resulting in an unbiased objective way of monitoring players regardless of maturation.

The Skills Challenges consists of a number of challenges that reflect the individual technical ability of the players.  It gives the players an insight into their own current skill level and challenges them to find ways of improving their own scores.

Goal Setting

The Skill Challenge allows players to set simple performance goals and view development in terms of personal improvement.  Players who reply too heavily on favourable comparisons with other players are in danger of being dissappointed.  Players who focus on their own improvement are more likely to be intrinsically motivated, enjoy their football and maintain participation.

The skill challenges provide simple oppourtunities for players to achieve success and improve their overall self-esteem by focusing upon their own performance and not others.  The reward and feedback provided in the challeneges can be immediate and intrinsic.

Programme Overview
